A declaration of intent

The Private Venture Office.

Most angel portfolios do not suffer from a lack of opportunity. They suffer from a surplus of noise.

Access is abundant.
Judgment is scarce.

More introductions. More decks. More rooms. More confident opinions borrowed from people whose incentives are rarely the same as the investor's.

A room can create access, context and trust. It cannot own the consequences of one principal's decision. Access can be shared. Conviction cannot.

Le Club X exists for a limited number of principals who believe direct venture investing deserves an office of its own: a place where the mandate is defined before the opportunity arrives, where every thesis is required to survive opposition, and where a pass is treated as a valuable decision.

We believe the purpose of diligence is not to make a company appear investable. It is to discover what must be true for the investment to matter—and what could make the thesis permanently wrong.

We distinguish company quality from investment quality. A remarkable founder can still be raising at the wrong price. A beautiful product can still lack distribution. A vast market can still reward the incumbent. A good company can still be a poor use of a particular principal's capital.

We do not count opportunities as progress. We do not confuse a summarized deck with understanding. We do not treat a markup as proof, a prestigious co-investor as conviction, or existing ownership as a reason to follow on.

The 100× Standard

Before an opportunity can become consequential, it must survive six questions.

01
Is the market large enough to sustain an extraordinary company?
02
Do the founders learn and execute faster than the environment changes?
03
Does the advantage compound faster than the capital required to build it?
04
Why is this possible now?
05
Can distribution become market power?
06
Do price and ownership preserve enough upside after dilution?
